Ingredients
2 Tbsp dry milk, ¾ Tbsp salt, 2½ Tbsp sugar, 4 oz shortening, 3 heaping Tbsp yeast, 1¾ cups water, 4¼ to 4½ cups flour
Preparation
1. Dissolve yeast in 1 cup warm water (~110°F) and let sit.
2. Mix dry milk into remaining ¾ cup water.
3. Add yeast and milk mixtures to mixing bowl and let sit for 5 minutes.
4. Add salt, sugar, shortening, and begin mixing with dough hook.
5. Gradually add flour until dough pulls cleanly from bowl.
6. Cover and let rise in a warm place for ~1 hour.
7. Divide into 1 lb loaves and place in greased, floured pans.
8. Bake at 375°F for 35–40 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding.
9. Use extra dough for rolls or pizza crust.
