Winchendon Youth Art Club
Nurturing Creativity. Building Confidence. Inspiring the Future.
Welcome to the Winchendon Youth Art Club — a youth-led creative initiative designed to provide students in grades 3–8 with a safe, expressive, and enriching space to explore the arts. Launched in Fall 2024 in response to school budget cuts and a lack of extracurricular offerings, the Art Club met weekly throughout the entire 2024–2025 school year, empowering young artists to create, collaborate, and grow.
What We Do
Throughout the school year, a dedicated group of students met each week at Murdock Middle School to experiment with various art forms — including sketching, painting, doodling, paper mâché, and even pottery using a wheel. From the very first session, students took the lead: identifying their passions, planning projects, and making creative decisions together.
But the Art Club was more than just art. It was a space for:
-
Emotional and social development
-
Leadership and teamwork
-
Building self-worth through creative expression
-
Discovering new talents and interests
This program gave students ownership of their learning and a sense of pride in their contributions.

A Community Effort
This program was made possible thanks to generous grants and support from:
-
Murdock Middle School
(Special thanks to Dr. Mayo for allowing us to hold the art club at Murdock Middle School and to Mr. Jonathan Rose for allowing us to take over his art room every week and for opening their space and supporting our artists.)
What’s Next?
With strong participation and community enthusiasm, we’re committed to sustaining and growing the Art Club. We’re pursuing additional cultural grants, youth-led fundraising opportunities, and partnerships to ensure this creative space continues for years to come.
“By giving young people the opportunity to be the best versions of themselves, we invest in the future of Winchendon.”
